On Wednesday, Hyperspace Stories #2 - written by Cecil Castellucci, with Megan Huang as the artist, and colorist Michael Atiyah - releases and there is a notable time-jump between the first two issues. The Rebel Alliance is desperately seeking a new location for a base to escape the Empire’s grip, so Luke and Leia set off to check out a mountainous world that appears to fit their needs only to find the Empire already has a presence on the planet.
Castellucci does a great job capturing both Luke and Leia's character in the dialogue, and overall I enjoyed reading a story focusing on these two doing a mission together. My main gripe with the first installment was the ending felt rushed, but I am pleased to say I did not feel that way about this latest issue; the pacing was spot on and I felt everything came together splendidly. However, similar to Hyperspace Stories #1, I thought there were some inconsistencies in the art style, with some panels not resembling Luke or Leia in the slightest, which took me out of the story at times. Although, I primarily took note of the art style during my third reading, so I suppose it will be noticeable to those who are examining all aspects of the comic.
Final Thoughts: Hyperspace Stories #2 continues this entertaining short-form storytelling across various eras that follow fan favorite characters. It was a delight to experience a step in the process of landing on Hoth as their new Rebel Base, and I am greatly looking forward to issue 3 that will focus on Finn and Poe.
