Catch More Anakin and Obi-Wan Shenanigans in Hyperspace Stories #1

The new anthology comic series, Hyperspace Stories, begins during the time of the Galactic Republic just as the Clone War is raging throughout the galaxy. Padmé is off on a diplomatic mission in the outer rim alongside other members of the Republic until their mission takes a turn for the worst. Once the Jedi Council receives word, Anakin and Obi-Wan are quickly dispatched to rescue the senator, but in true Anakin and Obi-Wan fashion, things never go as planned.

Hyperspace Stories #1 written by Amanda Deibert begins with the typical Anakin and Obi-Wan shenanigans we’ve grown to expect. After watching episode five of Kenobi, I’ve been wanting more Anakin and Obi-Wan content, and I’m not disappointed. While Padmé is in this issue, she’s not as prominent in the story as I thought. We do get to meet a couple new characters who are at the center of the story, one of whom is the catalyst for the lessons Anakin learns throughout the issue.

The art style for this first issue is simple but it works for the story, especially the line art by Lucas Marangon, and the color art by Michael Richardson compliments Marangon’s style well. Although, while looking at the main cover I noticed a small discrepancy in Anakin’s portrayal as the main cover shows him with both organic hands while in the comic and the variant cover show him with his mechno-arm, which isn’t a huge deal but it is something some readers may pick up on while reading.

Final Thoughts: Hyperspace Stories #1 is a good start to an anthology featuring various characters across multiple eras in Star Wars storytelling. There are some story aspects I wish were expanded upon more and that the ending wasn’t as conveniently wrapped up, but I’m curious to see what tales the anthologies will tell.
