House of the Dragon Season 1 Finale Leaves Fans Eagerly Awaiting Season 2

Oct 24, 2022

Stirring events set up the war to come

Season 1, Episode 10: ‘The Black Queen’

This season set up the infamous Dance of the Dragons (the civil war between Targaryens vying for control of the Realm, which results in death, betrayal, and the near-extinction of dragons themselves) from George R.R. Martin's novel, Fire and Blood, and last night's season finale is the point of no return. This stirring and moving finale included intimate, pivitol moments between characters that provide a stark contrast between the Queen we would have seen and the Queen that will be. The writing throughout the episode is phenomenal and captivates viewers for its entirety, successully taking all the characters - especially Rhaenyra (Emmy D'Arcy) - on a well-executed arc in 60 minutes. We’ll have to wait until next season to see whether, after Luc’s (Elliot Grihault) death, Rhaenyra’s still in the mood for wise council.

Shortly after the show's premiere, HBO announced plans for season 2 and it is said season 2 will begin filming in early 2023.
